DNU Hospital

Aarhus, Denmark

Waiting areas, canteens and meeting rooms

The construction of the New University Hospital (DNU) in Aarhus is the biggest hospital project in the history of Denmark. The 250.000 m2 of new build construction will be added to the existing Aarhus University Hospital of 160.000 m2 and together the overall hospital complex will be as big as a Danish provincial town.

Randers+Radius, who previously has supplied furniture to Aarhus University Hospital, was in close contact with the architect behind the project, where various requirements for cleaning, disinfection, acoustics, comfort, high functionality and compelling design were discussed.

The PURE chair by Thore Lassen, was picked for waiting areas, canteens and living rooms. The fact that the pur material gave the same comfort and warmth as a padded seat, but being much easier to clean was a big plus for the hospital. In addition, the subdued colors fitted perfectly into the hospital's modern architecture.

Various meeting rooms were furnished with MOOD 4 Legs and the office chair Mood Learn. The chair not only offered great ergonomics, the unique curves of the seat shell, which reflects the shape of its occupant, gave the rooms a playful twist. Furthermore, the color scale of the MOOD series contributed to a dynamic but harmonious interaction with the colors of the PURE collection.

The MOOD series is designed by Hans Thyge & Co and they are also the designer behind the SALA E office chair which were picked for further meeting rooms.
